ABOUT DR. SHIN

Born and raised in San Francisco, Dr. Shin identifies with the unique community and people here. He knew early in his life that helping people was part of who he was, and a career in medicine allowed him to give back to the community that had given him so much.

Dr. Shin graduated magna cum laude from UCLA and earned his medical degree at the UC Davis School of Medicine. After his residency, he completed a prestigious fellowship with the Department of Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Shin has brought his orthopaedic expertise around the world—to places such as Guatemala and African countries—and as a part of volunteer medical missions he has provided treatment and surgery to individuals who might have otherwise been saddled with lifelong joint pain or limited mobility.

Serving as a leader in the innovation of orthopaedic surgical treatment, Dr. Shin has published nationally recognized and award-winning research on arthroscopic treatment of shoulder and knee injuries. Recently trained in the latest techniques, he treats joint problems of all kinds, including more advanced joint pathology with partial and complete joint replacement when necessary. Dr. Shin is also one of the few surgeons in the area to offer arthroscopic hip treatment.

Committed to educating future doctors, Dr. Shin teaches students of the UCSF Medical School and hosts California Pacific Medical Center residents as they do rotations through the practice. He remains abreast of the latest research, techniques, and technologies in orthopaedic surgery to ensure he is offering only the best for patients under his care.

Dr. Shin believes that no two cases require the same amount of time and attention. As an advocate for his patients, he enjoys the ability to give every patient the time they deserve through his practice at Orthopedic Specialists, Inc.

I want to help every patient get back to a level of activity they once enjoyed. It's incredibly rewarding to see each patient through to a satisfying end of a once-limiting joint problem.
